Christopher S. Muller Stories

People say pictures are worth a thousand words or something like that... Even if you have a thousand pictures and millions of video frames,
sometimes the best parts of the stories are left out. Realizing I have many memories I'd like to document and more importantly share with my railfan
friends, I've decided to make a new addition to my website. Christopher S. Muller Stories will be in depth trip reports or elaborations of trackside
events. Stories will be published on a random basis. Please enjoy my stories, but do not reproduce or publish without my written consent.
What are Christopher S. Muller Stories?
On Tuesday, October 14, 2008 a real life occurrence of “Dawn of the Dead” took place in
the thick woods of Northeastern Minnesota and along the shores of Lake Superior. Unlike
the horror films from 1978 and 2004 that share the title, there weren’t zombies roaming the
land or any bloodshed. The day didn’t end fleeing to a remote island where safety would
be, but rather chasing the undead until last light. Hell wasn’t full and the undead did not
hunt uninfected blood, but there was some intense hunting going on.
With a forecast calling for snow that had the possibility to be heavy at times, I was glued to
the scanner, just waiting for something to pop to life. After listening for hours and hearing
nothing, I knew something would have to eventually move through. As Saturday turned to
Sunday the snow began to fall, by 03:30hrs we had received over a foot of heavy wet snow.
This was just the start of what was to come. With advanced warning that the M-SUPMIN
would be heading west in the mid afternoon, I made the dangerous trip to Grand Rapids...
Summer days can be long, especially on hot days. If you want to make a summer day go
faster, entertain a group of railfans shooting trains on the BNSF Staples Sub for an
afternoon! The day of the first ever OutstateMinnesotaRail gathering flew by and now I
have the memories, photos, video, and friendships to look back on. The BNSF cooperated
by sending numerous trains, Mother Nature cooperated with a clear blue sky, and the grill
cooperated producing some tender juicy burgers and weiners off the grill.
